Jamabandi to be launched in Gilgit

GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman on Tuesday directed the Gilgit commissioner and deputy commissioner to take appropriate measures for conducting Jamabandi (record rights of a village) in the city.

Records of the 16 to 18 villages in Gilgit are expected to be collected soon. Under the Jamabandi process, important data will be collected pertaining to rights and land record of villagers such as names of owners, the area of land, shares of owners and other rights.

CM said that the regional government will provide all the required resources and staff for smooth conduct of the Jamabandi process, an official statement said on Tuesday. Jamabandi in different villages of Gilgit was last held in 2002. The move comes in the wake of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) being launched in the region.
