Khalid Khursheed elected the Chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan.
Muhammad Khalid Khurshid Khan is a Pakistani politician who is the current Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He has been a member of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly since 25 November 2020. He was born on 17 November 1980 in Rattu area of Shounter Tehsil in Astore District. Khan belongs from Machoque tribe. Matriculated from Public School and College, Gilgit and graduation from Faisalabad. He received degree in law from the Queen Mary University of London, England.
Muhammad Khalid Khursheed belongs to a well-known political and educated family of Astore district his father Muhammad Khurshid Khan won the district elections held in 1971 and retired as Chief Judge of Gilgit-Baltistan in 2005. His uncle, Haji Inayat, served as the chairman of Astore-Diamer district council for three consecutive terms from 1981 to 1994. One of his brother is Pakistan’s mission member in UN Assembly.
Political Career.
He lost his first election for Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly as an independent candidate in 2009 second time in 2015. He joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on 28 July 2018. In 2019 appointed President of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Astore-Diamer Division.
Muhammad Khalid Khursheed contested 2020 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly election on 15 November 2020 from constituency GBA-13 (Astore-1) on the ticket of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He won the election by the margin of 1,719 votes over the runner up Abdul Hameed Khan of Pakistan Peoples Party. He garnered 4,836 votes while Abdul Hameed received 3,117 votes.[1] PTI had nominated Khalid Khurshid Khan as candidate for Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan on November 27, 2020. On 30 November 2020, he was elected as Chief Minister of Gigit-Baltistan.
